Jörgen Raymann - Special Representative – Unicef the Netherlands

Cabaret performer and presenter Jörgen Raymann was born in Amsterdam, but grew up in the Republic of Suriname. Among the Dutch general public, Jörgen is mainly known for the popular television programmes 'Raymann is Laat' and 'Comedy Factory', but he can also be found in the theatre. At present, he is touring the Netherlands with his show 'Nummer 13866'. A new series of ‘Raymann is Laat’ begins on February 16, 2008. Jörgen has been a Unicef Special Representative since 2005. He shares this honour with Trijntje Oosterhuis, Edwin Evers and Sipke Jan Bousema, and Unicef Ambassadors Paul van Vliet and Monique van de Ven. During this time, he has made several trips to see Unicef at work. His first journey took him to his native country of Suriname, where he visited Unicef projects on HIV and AIDS and care for very young children. Jörgen consciously chose Unicef: "I was able to see with my own eyes what Unicef is doing in the country where I grew up. AIDS is a growing problem among children and teenagers in Suriname. Even the poorest Surinamese children have the same right to healthy development from the very outset. Unicef wants to give them this chance, so that they can blossom mentally and physically and join the adult world as able-bodied people. If I can contribute to this, I am very happy to do so."

The Celebrity Smurf for Scheveningen was created by Jörgen Raymann with the help of his children. At the end of the EuroTour this Smurf will be auctioned for UNICEF.
